During my vacation in Holland, I had the chance to meet with Professional bodybuilder Khalid Al Mohsinawi, and for him to be the first bodybuilder to be interviewed by arabianmuscles.com.Get to hear his latest news, future plans, opinion about bodybuilding, his life and training.
Shady: First I would like to thank you for this opportunity, I’m a big fan of you and I talk on behalf of many arabianmuscles.com visitors who are big fans as well, it’s an honor for me to meet you and have the chance to do this interview.
Khalid: Thank you, it’s my pleasure.
Shady: Many Arab fans just recognize you as the professional bodybuilder champion Khalid al Mohsinawi; tell us a little about yourself?
Khalid: I started training in 1999, and my first contest was juniors’ championship and got the first place, and began my career in this sport, I was training myself and didn’t have a trainer, I got most of the information from the internet and collecting information from people around at the gym. In 2004 I competed in Holland championship and got the first places, in the same year I competed in the European championship and won first place as well.
After that I took a year off to add more bulk to my size, and in 2005 I competed in Mr. Universe, I got the first place and earned my pro card. 2007 was the first contest as a pro, Shawn Ray pro, and places 14th and some other contest along the way. My last contest was last year Atlantis City pro, and I got a good placing at 7th. And hope to get better ranking in the future.
Shady: A question I always like to know, when did you start bodybuilding and what made you interested in it?
Khalid: Before I begin the training I was very weak, my weight was 50 kg and my friends laughed on me because of the small size, and that what made me start the training to increase my size, I already had some muscles since I was training gymnastic and after weight lifting the muscles began to grow and I liked it, so I continued training.
Shady: What’s a normal day for Khalid al Mohsinawi?
Khalid: I wake up every day at seven in the morning, drink a protein shake with glutamine, half an hour later I have a rice with chicken meal, and continue to take a meal with rice or potatoes with chicken or steak every two hours and a half - three, as a main source of carbohydrates and protein. Half an hour before the workout I have a protein shake and take some pre workout supplements, at 7:00 I start training with a my friend and training partner Robin, I finish training around 8:30-9:00 pm and have my post workout shake, after that I take another meal of rice and chicken, my last me is at 11:30-12:00 I eat six egg whites and 250 grams of chicken, then go to bed.
Shady: how is your training going at this moment?
Khalid: Training these days is going very good, as I always train on my own, but a few months ago I met the coach Haney Rambod, Who is helping me in my training and diet at the moment, and I already started to feel the progress training with him.
Shady: Any contest you have in mind to prepare for in the future?
Khalid: I’m now preparing for next year Iron Man show in February, and hopefully I will get a good placing in it.
Shady: what is your opinion about bodybuilding sport nowadays?
Khalid: These days competing in this sport is very very hard, to be compared with the 80's for example, mass sizes and lots of good high level bodybuilders, which make the competition very high, which calls for harder work to get to keep up with the current level.
Shady: If you have the chance to do it all over again, would you still pick the bodybuilding lifestyle, or would you pick something else?
Khalid: I would still choose bodybuilding, but if I had the chance to do it all over again, the first thing I would do is find a good trainer to train me, we all lack of knowledge at the beginning and take years to gain, a good trainer can make it shorter. That would have for sure had me in a higher level now.
Shady: You have a little son; you think in the future you would like him to become a bodybuilder as well?
Khalid: I don't encourage him to be a bodybuilder, this is sport is so hard, and takes all your time and effort with very little in return.
Shady: What are the most important things to success in the sport of bodybuilding?
Khalid: The important things are genetics, nutrition, training and rest. There importance vary depend on your stage but genetics are the most important factor.
Shady: What types of training you prefer the most?
Khalid: I like always to change my training, sometimes I use machines, sometime free weight, heavy weights low reps or moderate with high reps, variety is very important to me.
Shady: What’s your opinion about Arab bodybuilder’s level? And what do you think we can do to improve it?
Khalid: Arabs in general are high level but they need more guidance, especially in knowledge about bodybuilding, bodybuilding is very popular in the Arab world and there are lot of people who train and reach good level, but as soon as they reach that level, they seem to find it hard to go above it, even though their number is a lot. If they had a better knowledge, they would be much better than they already are.
Shady: Thanks you again for your time and this opportunity, any last words you would like to say to your Arab fans?
Khalid: I thank all my Arab fans and hopefully I will make you proud in the future, and achieve better success in bodybuilding.
